Smart City SEE Awards
The awards facilitate and support the advancement of new urban realities and citizen-centric initiatives while encouraging innovative start-ups and solution providers to showcase groundbreaking technology.
Our panel discussion on climate challenges brings together leaders in the field of circular, sustainable, and low-carbon solutions, with the aim of achieving zero emissions of carbon dioxide and gases that cause climate change. We will examine Serbia's position in the international landscape of smart cities and identify best practices from leading countries in various segments of smart cities.
The “Smart Serbia” initiative, which connects and promotes sustainable and innovative solutions for smart cities, will begin its activities within the framework of the conference. This initiative aims to encourage cooperation with local communities focused on cleaner and greener urban communities. The key objective is to promote advanced management models that will help cities control and reduce CO2 emissions and, at the same time, manage climate change. The smart system contributes to the multifaceted development of cities on a new platform, with ecological, economic, and social benefits, including happier and healthier communities.
The cities of the future will combine nature with smart, green technology. Distinguished speakers and panelists at #SCSEE25 will exchange ideas and insights on how these hybrid urban spaces can increase resilience to climate change and optimize energy and resource management.
Cities currently contribute significantly to climate change through CO2 emissions, with transportation and buildings accounting for 60% of emissions. By implementing sustainable practices seen in cities like those in Germany, the UK, and Singapore, cities in China, Japan etc., we can mitigate this impact.
With nearly 50% of the population living in urban areas, cities are forced to strive for carbon neutrality. The most relevant speakers will focus on: how to adapt, mitigate, and educate communities on smarter climate-resilient practices. No digitization or technological solution can replace human behavior and its impact on risk reduction. Citizens adaptation and education address a significant portion of the problem.
The EU emits 6% of global emissions and cannot act alone. Global cooperation is essential for all climate change mitigation. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement ensure cooperation across borders to tackle climate change and ensure a sustainable future.

Smart cities represent a pathway to decarbonization and transition to carbon neutrality, aiming at preventing colosal consequences of climate change while fostering healthier and happier cities and citizens. The dramatic consequences of climate change are not just words; we are already witnessing the extent of climate changes that threaten populated areas, with estimated damages in Serbia alone amounting to tens of billions of euros.
The economic risk factor associated with climate change makes the transition to smart and sustainable solutions an urgent issue. Serbia is among the regions experiencing warming beyond expectations, by about half a degree, and this summer, it exceeded 2 degrees.
